Since 2020
When WordPress moved to the React based block editor, we built Gutenslider as one of the first slider blocks inside it. Each slide has a background (image, video, color or gradient) and holds any blocks on top, so you design the slider right where you write the content.
Version 7 (September 2026) is a rebuild. The front end runs on the Interactivity API without jQuery, Swiper loads only when a slider comes near the viewport, the lightbox is a native <dialog>, and the layout is rendered on the server so nothing shifts. On the same test pages, mobile Lighthouse went from 66–88 with 6.1.2 to 95–99, and layout shift from 0.52 to 0.
Since 7.1 it also builds video sliders from YouTube videos and playlists, and the current version, 7.2.0 (October 2026), can line up a slide's blocks with the theme's content or wide width. Pro, sold through Freemius, adds 3D and WebGL transitions, scroll parallax and more pagination and lightbox options. We also rebuilt gutenslider.org as a block theme that uses only core blocks and Gutenslider.
